So, I was about to go to bed this evening, and made a quick stop off at Anime News Network to see what the newest news is.

Because I’m a masochist, I enjoy reading Answerman’s column.

I direct everyone’s attention to the fourth letter for this week.

Needless to say, I am now very wide awake.

I’m writing a response to Answerman that hopefully will end up in the article next week, but I also wanted to make a blog post pertaining to this. It’ll be short, since mostly I want to start discussion.

Answerman brings up the idea that “it’s rare to be a funny person.” I argue that rather than that, it is rare to have humor that appeals to everyone. Just because Answerman doesn’t like Weird Al or things that make fun of Yaoi doesn’t mean others might find the very same things hilarious.

For example: I find Jungle wa Itsumo Hale nochi Guu to be among the most hilarious shows I’ve ever seen. Among my anime club at CSU when we tried showing it, a good portion of the members did not seem to find it very funny. These same members found Ouran High School Host Club, which I consider at least somewhat thematically similar, just as hilarious as I did.

Humor is not objective, and I think Answerman is foolish to assume that what isn’t funny to him can’t possibly be funny to others. Like all factors of living in the human condition, Humor is subjective, and must be judged on an individual level.

So I pose this question: What do you, my readers, consider to be a “Good” Comedy AMV? Does Weird Al make you laugh, no matter how many times you listen to it? Or does telephone poles set to eurotechno with pop-up video conversations have what it takes to make you laugh? I’m looking for subjective opinions here, people, especially as a hobbyist who simply likes making AMVs for pleasure.
